New Hospital Takes Shape

The first new acute hospital in Birmingham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, is really starting to take shape. With the opening to patients on 16 June, 2010, work continues apace on the £545m, 1,213 bed project, which will include the largest single floor critical care unit in the world.

Main contractor Balfour Beatty have contracted Hayes to manufacture and install approximately £4m worth of front and back of house structural steelwork comprising feature staircases and concourses both in stainless steel and powder coated, galvanised accessways to plant rooms and other general secondary steelwork.
